Back To 1986 With Kay Bee Young Superstars

This junk wax oddball set takes us back to 1986. The Kay Bee Toys Young Superstars set is my new favorite. Not because of the design, but for the checklist that includes two of my favorite Minnesota Twins pitchers.

Oddball sets have quickly become a thing for me. They are cheap and loaded with nostalgia. This is my third junk wax oddball set review following A Junk Food Junk Wax Oddball Set and A Blue Light Special Oddball Set.

The 33 card set is built around “promising” young players from the 1985 season. While some never made it, others went on to have a good career and even the Hall of Fame. The super glossy front is a personal favorite of mine. The card back has a red background with a black and white photo.

As I pulled the cards out of the box, I immediately was excited to see Rick Aguilera as the first card in the set. Rick Aguilera is one of my favorite Minnesota Twins pitchers. He was a rotation pitcher turned closer during the 1990 season where he remained until leaving the Twins.

Frank Viola is also on the checklist and is another all-time favorite Minnesota Twins pitcher of mine. Viola did very well during his years with the Minnesota Twins (especially in 1988) and was always a fan favorite.

Another junk wax oddball set in the books. I am going to keep hoarding these junk wax gems and sharing all the nostalgic goodness they bring!
