Luck Was On My Side

Usually when I open up a box of cards I am hoping to be able to get as close to a complete set as possible. I was excited to be gifted a box of 2019 Topps Heritage in hopes of tackling the set. About half way through I knew I was lucky.

After 4 hours of sorting and top-loading cards at the shop, Chris from TopShelfBreaks was gracious enough to give me a box of 2019 Heritage Baseball.

It took me almost 48 hours to begin opening the box of cards. About half way through I pulled the following Nolan Ryan autograph. At first, I thought it was facsimile autograph from an insert set. Nope. It was real.

Holy sh*t!

The Nolan Ryan autograph was probably the biggest card I have ever pulled. I continued to open the rest of the box only seeing a few more short prints.

Cards #401 and higher short-prints and needed for a “complete set”.

Fast forward 24-hours; My son just went to bed and I decided to begin sorting the stack on my desk. When I get to the short-prints, I noticed the Shohei Ohtani had “error” under the card number. Sure enough, it was the error variation.

Holy Sh*t!

I was pretty excited at this point. I will probably never have a box like this again.

Hold up.

Now I noticed the Mike Trout had “action” under the card number… action variation!

It’s probably safe to say this will be the best box I ever open. I don’t open higher-end cards and usually stick to Topps flagship, Heritage, and sometimes low-end basketball.

My goal is to sell these and hopefully purchase a nice graded 1955 Topps Harmon Killebrew RC. We’ll see. Thanks for reading.
