So Much Sorting

I have been stocking up on card lots and starter sets over the past month. The card lots range from the early 1980’s to the early 1990’s. I think I am looking at around 5,000 cards to sort and create want lists for each year. It’s a big task, but I love sorting.

The 1980’s

I have been lucky to find early to mid-1980’s lots on eBay and Facebook groups. When I start a set, I usually like to open a box and go from there, but the prices for early to mid-1980’s Topps wax boxes is way more than what I want to spend.

Starter lots can range from $15 to $25 depending on how many cards it contains. I prefer lots sizes around 500 cards, as it still lets me chase down cards and still have some fun.

The following is a box of approximately 1,200 1981, 1982, and 1983 Topps. This was an easy $30 purchase from a Facebook group. The big rookies are probably missing, but I am more than okay with that. I just wanted a good starter lot.

My 1988 and 1989 Topps needs should be filled with some jumbo or rak packs. Both years were very over produced and still cheap.

The 1990’s

While the wax box price for early to mid-1980’s Topps is more than I want to spend, early 1990’s Topps is cheap. 1992 Topps was a very nostalgic year for me that will earn a blog post in the future. My original 1992 Topps set was really beat up, so I decided to start over with a new one.

Modern

I have been sitting on a complete 2018 Topps Series 1 set since it was released. I missed the Series 2 set for reasons I cannot remember, but was recently given a 800 count box of 2018 Topps Series 2 commons. This box should yield a set and a nice stack of duplicates.

It’s a good thing I love to sort cards, because I have a ton of work ahead of me.

Bummer. If you lived in the Bay Area, I could drop off a bunch of cards that I’m about to dump off at Goodwill. I just purchased a few collections from my buddy and pulled out the stuff I wanted… brought a few stacks for my students to my classroom. The rest are waiting in my family room to be taken away this weekend.

No worries. I am very specific about what I am taking in. I will be working on a set run of the 1980’s, then start into the 1970’s with a few 1990’s here and there.

Thanks for reading Fuji! I always read whatever you publish.

Jon,

Right? The cards I purged were cards I could care less about. Usually left overs from opening a box or taking in a lot a few years back. What I just bought was a fraction of what I got rid of.

Thanks for reading!
