Paul Molitor is officially the coach of the Minnesota Twins so I decided to write up a small guide on collecting Paul Molitor. The 2004 Hall of Fame inductee grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and played for the University of Minnesota before being drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1978. He is replacing Ron Gardenhire who spent the last 12 years managing the Twins before parting ways.
Major League Career
Molitor spent the majority of his playing career with the Brewers before making a short stint with the Toronto Blue Jays and finally ending his career as a Minnesota Twin. With a career batting average of .306 and 3300 hits, Molitor made seven all-star appearances and was named the 1993 World Series MVP. Collecting Paul Molitor is an easy choice as his cards are extremely affordable.
The Rookie Card
His 1978 topps rookie, which he shares with Alan Trammel is a staple. The ungraded versions range from $5 to $20. If you are going to spend $20 on a non-graded version, you can easily get a graded PSA 7 or lower version on eBay. The PSA 8 averages around $40 with the PSA 9 or better creating a steep jump to $300+.
Modern auto, relic, and patch Paul Molitor cards are easily available with price ranges across the board.
As a Twins fan, I hope Molitor works out. It is a risk to hire someone who has never managed a team. Hopefully his knowledge of the game will work in the organizations benefit.
